Double Stuff Oreo Explosion Cake

So, I've always loved Oreos. Who doesn't? One of my daughter's best friends really wanted an Oreo cake for her birthday, so I decided to craft this. She said it was one of the best gifts she ever received. Also, the butter cream frosting in the middle (and there's a lot of it) tasted like the Oreo filling.
It's really pretty easy.

I used 2 chocolate box cakes. I baked each in a 10 inch round pan. I like to add parchment paper on the bottom to help it come out easily. Just lay the cake pan on the parchment paper. Use a pencil to outline it. The cut out and place in the bottom of the pan. I then use Pam butter flavor to spray the pan.
Next, I used a white box cake, followed the directions and mixed in 15 crumbled Oreos in the batter. I baked it and cut off the top as well as the outside. This will be the center cake.

Now, lay out the first chocolate cake on the bottom. With a cake icer tip, I put 2 layers of butter cream frosting on top.
Here is recipe for the butter cream frosting: I made 3 batches.
1⁄2 cup vegetable shortening
1⁄2 cup softened butter
1 teaspoon clear vanilla extract.
4 cups sifted confectioners' sugar
2 tablespoons water
Put together in a mixer and mix until smooth and creamy.

Next, I put the cookies and cream cake white as the second layer and covered the outside with the butter cream frosting. Smooth it out.

Also cover the top of the cookies and cream white cake with butter cream frosting. Smooth out the top lawyer. Place the chocolate cake on top.

Next, for the topper, cut the top of the Double Stuff Oreo bag. Take out the plastic insert with the cookies. Take out cookies and put the plastic cookie holder back in the Oreo bag. Tape 2 skewers into the bag. Lay it out on parchment paper. Use chocolate wafer melts in a baggie to create a design where it is flowing out of the bag. Once dried, add a second layer and put whole, half and quarter Oreo cookies on the chocolate. Now add crumbled cookies to fill in.

Once dried. insert into the top of the cake so it looks like it is flowing from the Oreo bag onto the cake.

Make this recipe and pour on top of the cake.
Chocolate Topping:
4 ounces Semi-Sweet Chocolate chips
1/4 cup butter - or 4 Tbs butter
Microwave chocolate and butter in small microwaveable bowl for 2 min. or until butter is melted. Stir until chocolate is completely melted. Cool 5 min. Pour on top of cake. Add Oreo crumbles.Cover with crumbled Oreo cookies to fill in.
Use more melted chocolate wafers to attach more Oreos on the back. I wrapped this in Plastic wrap and put it in the freezer until we were ready to serve.
